Making the Patient-Physician Connection in Changing Times

Use Technology for Patient Education

patient education

With increasing competition among health care providers, patient satisfaction has never been more important in ensuring continuing patronage. Yet, high patient approval ratings can’t come at the cost of sacrificing the caregiver staff efficiency. Finding a successful balance between these two factors is what paves the way toward optimum health care for patients and staff alike. MediaCare2 is a tool that can help achieve this elusive result.

There are powerful reasons to place an Android TV into patient hospital rooms.

TV Design Can Help Control Infection in Patient Rooms

MRSA

HCI has introduced a completely redesigned patient television to enhance looks, convenience, and is now able to be cleaned much easier, which will help prevent the spread of bacteria and prevention of diseases such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

A building block approach to patient education

HCI uses a building block approach to patient education.  See how:

Reducing Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs)

In a 2007 study released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it was reported that Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI) In the United States cost the healthcare industry an estimated 28-45 billion dollars a year, and affected 1 in 20 patients. The US Department of Health and Human Services cites HAI's as the most common complication associated with hospital stays, and results in longer hospital stays, increased mortality rates, and overall poorer prognoses. The sad fact is that in the United States, HAI's are largely preventable when the potential threat is identified, and infection control procedures are implemented.

Technology and Healthcare TVs

RoomMate IPTVHCI has an important goal: to be innovators of hospital televisions. To meet this goal, HCI uses technology in its hospital grade televisions that is both cutting edge and uniquely designed to meet the needs of the hospital environment. For those looking for hospital grade televisions, the unique features offered by HCI make their TV models the perfect choice.

HCI Technology

HCI offers two unique types of technology: Internet Protocol Television, or IPTV, and Infection Control Television.

Internet Protocol Television
  • Internet Protocol Televisions contain ethernet ports, adding versatility to the use of the television.
  • IPTV can broadcast live, can offer programming that is time-shifted and room-shifted, and can offer Video on Demand or VOD.  Learn more
VOD Benefits
With VOD, hospital staff and patients both have access to informational videos at the touch of a button.
  • Video on Demand can be used to help educate patients about topics including the care they need after surgery, what to expect during recovery, information about medicines and treatments, and information for general health and nutrition.
  • Televisions can be placed in patient’s rooms, waiting areas, dining areas, or staff lounges. With VOD, videos can be accessed at any time, from any location and for many people at once.
  • Videos are simply placed on the local network and then streamed out to individual TV sets, allowing doctors and patients to select the time to view a video when it is most convenient.  The days of waiting for a staff member to pick up a DVD to watch are gone.
Ease of Control
All of the hospital grade televisions sold by HCI are UL-listed and are made specifically for use in hospital and other healthcare settings.
  • All of the features on HCI televisions are accessed with the remote control.
  • The televisions also have a button keypad on the front and a pillow speaker that has the speakers built in.  They keypad on the front allows visitors or nurses to control the TV without disturbing the patient.
  • There are also inputs on the side of the television that allow patients or hospital staff to connect devices like a game console, flash drive, or iPod.
  • Televisions also have the capability to be accessed from the nurse’s station with Media Care.
Infection Control Television
In addition to convenient programming options, Infection Control Television is an important and innovative feature offered by HCI.
  • The RoomMate Infection Control Series Digital Healthcare Television is the first of its kind.
  • The television has a front that is made of tempered glass.  Because the glass is tempered, it is both virtually indestructible and also antimicrobial.
  • The glass front makes it very easy to clean with cleaners that will kill germs, thus helping to control infection.
  • Televisions come equipped with a “Clean” button which, when pressed, allows the TV to be cleaned without changing any of the settings, like the volume or the channel.  It will even display a reminder when it is time to clean.
  • Television models also have a capacitive touch button panel that can be operated by someone with weakness in their fingers.  The panel is very durable and will never wear out.
HCI knows that a hospital room can be a lonely and scary place for many patients.  All of these features of their televisions show HCI’s commitment to enhancing the patient’s experience during a hospital stay.

Patient education is something that hospital staff wants to see more of and would like to simplify if they can. Movies and educational videos have to be scheduled randomly and often hand delivered to the patient. HCI has developed an affordable solution that allows patients to access educational content on demand.
